zentrada License Monitor, January - April 2017 - Paw Patrol new in 1st Place in Demand

May 19, 2017

Frozen, which had been the leading license for a long time, is slowly loosing popularity and has to hand over its first place ranking to the license theme Paw Patrol that has been experienced steady demand for months. Besides classic licensed themes, new trend topics such as unicorns and flamingos have developed recently. In the toy and gadget industry, Fidget Hand Spinner are the latest big trend.

Paw Patrol is a Canadian animated series for children in the age of 2 to 7. The series focuses on a boy named Ryder, who leads a group of seven rescue dogs called PAW Patrol. In every episode, the group helps people in the Adventure Bay area with their problems. Thereby, Paw Patrol is currently leading the zentrada Trend Monitor.

This monitor analyzes the search, click, and purchase behavior on all eight zentrada wholesale marketplaces (www.zentrada.de) in Europe and sheds light on the market development in the licensed product business.  Additionally interesting is the relatively even distribution of demand between the different European countries.

This also shows that Paw Patrol is already an established theme in the licensed market. New themes typically emerge in Spain and expand from there throughout Europe.

New rising stars are the themes PJ Masks and Vaiana from Disney. The losers in comparison to the market are the licenses Frozen, Star Wars, and Minions.

Besides the classic licenses, new trends develop currently. In the decoration segment the motives unicorn, flamingo, and jungle are highly demanded. In the toy industry the Fidget Hand Spinners popped-up in April and developed to a bestseller.  A Hand Spinner or Fidget Spinner is a toy that is spun between two fingers. Originally, they were developed for people with fidgety hands. Now, they are mostly used for fun.
